Myth & Mission
In the myth of Persephone and Hades, the goddess of the spring was not taken by the Lord of the Underworld, but descended with him into the realm of darkness, together—as lovers. When her mother pleaded for her return, Hades offered Persephone six sacred pomegranate seeds. She consumed the seeds, a promise that in six months she would be back to reign beside him as Queen of the Underworld. And so goes our seasons; six months of light and six months of darkness. Persephone’s Fruit is an ode to the yearning, to the beauty in passion, to powerful cthnonic love, and to the sacred fruitful darkness that holds it all..
The number 6 holds deep meaning, in nature it’s the turning of seasons, in sonnets it’s the potent turn of feeling. Long regarded as an enchanted number, we honor all that can be found within this tiny sacred space.
The Hades-Persephone myth, like countless others, has been twisted over time; turned into a puritanical kidnapping story that took away Persephone’s power and Hades’ multifaceted love for her. All to devalue sexual and creative freedom. In many ways, this space is a reclamation of sovereignty and personal power. Of love with the deepest respect and adoration. Of creative passion and longing that seeks not to trap, but to venerate and unite. To worship without restraint.
In service of the creative muses, we aim to bring more raw intensity into our little lit world. A passionate desire is a spell. To yearn is to spin manifestation into motion. We hold far too many spells to ourselves. It’s time we speak our incantations aloud, and ignite the magic within these tiny sparks.
